1953 Topps is one of my favorite designs of all time. I like the way that the cards look like actual paintings. As I did for 1952, I have picked out my five favorite cards from this set. These cards are not ranked in any particular order -- just my top five favorites.
1953 Topps #207 Whitey Ford
Although I'm too young to have seen Whitey Ford pitch, I have been told he was quite a fierce competitor. Besides, I always liked the name "Whitey". I have always liked this card and hope to some day own it.
1953 Topps #54 Bob Feller
I like this card because one of my favorite players, Nolan Ryan, was always being compared to him. Bob Feller had one of the fastest fastballs of his era and has been clocked throwing over 100 mph.
1953 Topps #244 Willie Mays
Willie Mays was one of the best outfielders of all time. He was known for always hustling and for his power hitting. He was one of my favorite players. When I was growing up, every kid wanted to be like Willie Mays.
1953 Topps #220 Satchel Paige
This is one of my favorite cards of an all time great. He was 47 years old at the time the 1953 Topps set was made and this is his only Topps regular base card. Satchel was one of the best Negro League players and it's too bad that he wasn't allowed to play his entire career in the major leagues.
And there you have it! My top five 1953 Topps cards. Do you agree or disagree with my selections? I'd love to hear from you!
