The Topps Favorites — 1962 Edition

The 1962 Topps is one of my top five favorite sets when it comes to design. However, it is one of the most difficult sets for me to put together. I am 86% of the way to completing this set, still needing 78 cards to go. Most of the cards I still need are high dollar cards including a bunch of the expensive shortprints. It is also difficult for me to piece together because the wood grain borders are easily chipped. All the cards in my set need to be EX or better. After studying all the cards in this set, here are my favorites:

The most popular and most expensive card of the set is one of my top five favorites of the set. This card photo was taken during the historic home run chase of 1961.

The Sey Hey Kid's 1962 card is one of my favorites of the set. He is third on my all time home run list with 660. My list does not include cheaters.

What manager wouldn't want the duo of Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays on his team? It's no surprise that this is one of my top five favorites since this card showcases two of my all time favorites.

This card shows the top four home run American League hitters during the historic 1961 season. Maris ended up with 61 and followed by a couple of Hall of Famers, Mantle and Killebrew. I have always been a fan of subset cards as it captures the history of baseball like nothing else.

There are my top five favorites for 1962.

    I’m partial to the Maris base card (#1) for obvious reasons. I’m biased towards the Orlando Cepeda card since that was the first ’62 I ever had. I also really like the Johnny Callison as a Phillies fan.
