The Topps Favorites — 1964 Edition

The 1964 Topps set is a vintage set that I am getting really close to completing. I only need 10 more cards as I'm sitting right now at 98% complete. The design of the 1964 is not one of my favorites. For me, it's not very colorful as there is too much white on the cards and the design is too simple and plain. However, I do like the fact that all the big names are in the set. Some of these are my favorites. For those who aren't familiar with my "Topps Favorites", I pick my five favorite cards from each set. Here are my five favorites from 1964:

1964 Topps #125 Pete Rose

It's too bad that this card photo wasn't used for his rookie card. This is my favorite Pete Rose card of all time. I'm also a fan of the Topps All-Star trophy on the card.

1964 Topps #150 Willie Mays

One of my favorite players of all time, it's no surprise that he is one of my top five favorites for the 1964 Topps set. The Sey Hey Kid had 660 home runs in his career.

1964 Topps #9 NL Home Run Leaders

This is one of my favorite cards of the 1964 set. I have always been a fan of league leader cards because they show the best statistical players of the prior season. This card is one of my favorites because it showcases four hall of famers including two of my favorites: Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. The Giants were loaded in the home run department!

1964 Topps #50 Mickey Mantle

Simply the most popular player of the 50's and 60's, Mickey Mantle is on my top five favorites list. His 1964 Topps baseball card is the most expensive card in the set.

1964 Topps #423 Tops In NL

One of my five favorite cards in the 1964 Topps set feature two of my five favorite players of all time - Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. I like it when Topps pairs Hall of Famers on a single card like they did with Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra in 1957.

Those are my top five favorites of the 1964 Topps set. Do you agree or disagree? I'd love to hear your opinions! Now I'm off to search for those last ten cards to complete my 1964 Topps set! 🙂
