My Results From THREE Cases of 2014 Topps Heritage!!

It sure was a fun time to sit down, take a few days off work, and rip into three cases of 2014 Topps Heritage! Here is a picture of my annual pyramid which actually shows four cases since one case was opened by a buddy of mine.

If you follow my blog, you should know by now that I really do not collect Topps Heritage. Yes, I am a huge fan of the product but the way I collect is quite different than most. Every year, I open a lot of Topps Heritage. It is basically the only current brand of cards I open other than regular Topps. I always end up trading or selling most of my Topps Heritage and end up trading or buying cards on my vintage wantlists. My ultimate goal is to have every base card Topps has produced from 1951 to present. Currently, that is 46,217 different cards! I currently need 930 more cards to make this happen. My ultimate goal is to be able to get my very last card, 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle in a PSA 2 grade, by my 50th birthday which is about eight years from now. So, if you keep following this blog for the next eight years, you can see if this will actually happen or not. Every week the number of cards I need shrinks and the lower that number gets, the more motivated I am to get my Topps set run completed.

Back to Topps Heritage. I ended up pre-buying three cases from Atlanta Sportscards and paid $675 a case. I thought this was a great price as prices around release time were hovering in the $800 range. So that total came to $2,025. I wondered if I would be able to get my money back on the cards I pulled and sold. Usually I don't but occasionally I do. I am really not in it for the money -- just would like to get some big hits from the cases so I can trade them (or sell and then buy) the big hits I need for my vintage sets.

Here are the results of what I pulled and the amount I sold them for. I don't take in consideration the cost of eBay or Paypal fees as those amounts are depressing. :) Some of these were sold offline which saved me on fees.

I was really surprised at some of these sales. Some did really good like the Jeter black chrome refractor and some did not do as good as I hoped like the Moran Red Ink autograph. I was also disappointed that one of my cases did not yield the hot box of purple refractors that you are supposed to get in every case. Another interesting fact is that I got two autographs in two consecutive packs. Would have been great to have had 24 autographs in one box -- now that is what I would call a hot box!

Here is a summary of my Heritage fun:

Money spent on three cases: $2,025.00
Grand Total of all sales from three cases: $2,674.13

It looks like that I did better than average from my breaks. With this money, it was time to go shopping as it is always my goal to convert all Heritage into my vintage needs whether it means I trade or sell and then buy.

Here is what I ended up buying:

So far, I have bought these 66 cards for $1,615.97. I also have now COMPLETED my 1962 Topps set! I only started on it about 30 years ago. It is a great feeling of accomplishment. My focus will now be on 1960 as I now need 23 more. I have two deals pending right now which could land me 13 of those 23 cards. Stay tuned and I will provide updates in future posts.

Thanks!!

Hmmmmmm – so how dose one talk their wife into this whole case buying idea?

    • cparker94 says:

That’s a good question! I’ve been fortunate enough to flip a bunch of cards to be able to pay for this. :) . My wife doesn’t mind as I bought her a wedding ring with the sale of a Topps Allen & Ginter Stephen Strasburg Autograph #ed to 10 back in 2010 before he announced season ending surgery. She understands my passion for cards and tolerates it. Just don’t ask her to sort cards. :)

  3. fuji says:

You are a very, very smart man. Congratulations on the quick flip.

  4. pedro says:

you spent 2000$$$$ for cards. my wife would lose her friggin mind…i stopped buying cards because i usually pull jack shit cards…ex. i have about 10 omar jacobs cards rc au..worth shit.lol

  5. Anthony says:

Here’s a simple question for you, I just got a Jim Palmer auto boxtopper in a box of Topps Hertiage, same size as that Manny Machado you got. It’s such an odd size for a card, what type of protective case did you put it in? I can’t find any top loaders that are that tall.

    • cparker94 says:

Nice auto! Good question — I ended up selling mine and packaged it carefully in cardboard and bubble wrap. I’m not sure if there are any holders that fit this odd size. I wish I could have been of more help to you.
